What is the correct pronunciation of Apple X? Apple Eks - or Apple Ten? [As for Me, I would pronounce Ms. X as Ms. Eks - not Ms. Ten! American Apple fans would probably pronounce Ms. X as Ms. Ten!! By the way, I know that Ms. - a camouflage abbreviation for Miss (for an unmarried - or perhaps divorced? - female) OR Mrs. (a modern married female is often not too happy announcing to the whole world that she is married) - is pronounced MIZ!! I think Ms. is a nice invention. Why should females NOT use Ms. when all males have used deceptive Mr. - for a bachelor or divorced guy OR for a happily or unhappily married male - for ages?!! - G]

Incidentally, I feel no bitterness at all about the biological fact that all females have the same v. A TERRIFYING STORY
I enjoyed reading a terrifying story last night - "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell, one of several interesting short stories in COLLECTION OF WORLD FAMOUS THRILLING STORIES (204 pages, price Rs. 70), published by Good Books Distributors [G.B.D.] Publishers, 31 Chowringhee Road, Kolkata - 16 (and also available in Guwahati from BOOKS AND GIFTS, S.C. Goswami Road, Panbazar, Guwahati - 1) - this short story reminds Me of My blasting the gang of aliens many years ago in Bombay/Mumbai - it seems to Me that the hero of this tense and dramatic short story is actually a mixture of the protagonists Sanger Rainsford of New York and General Zaroff - however, unlike Rainsford, I felt no fear in Bombay and have never felt the slightest fear afterwards. Fear is absent in My constitution. I gave a faint smile when I looked at Ms. X seated in a small car and hanging her head in shame and guilt coz I was secretly amused by the stupid aliens wanting to "threaten" G! HOW FUNNY!... I have also enjoyed reading the highly entertaining short stories "The Philosopher's Joke" by Jerome K. Jerome and "Who Knows?" by Guy de Maupassant in COLLECTION OF WORLD FAMOUS THRILLING STORIES. (The other short stories in this collection, which I will read very soon, are: "A Psychological Shipwreck" by Ambrose Bierce, "Rikki-tikki-tavi" by Rudyard Kipling, "Markheim" by Robert Louis Stevenson, "Nine Points of the Law" by E.W. Hornung, "Ministers of Grace" by Saki.) I have also enjoyed reading the short story "Mr. Swiddler's Flip-Flap" by Ambrose Bierce [Swiddler sounds like Swindler, which reminds Me of Peter Funk, worthy son of Dr. Wilfred Funk, being strangely entered as one of the synonyms of "swindler" in the reputable Webster's Collegiate Thesaurus; this "swindler" Peter Funk must be some other Peter Funk, I feel pretty sure] in COLLECTION OF WORLD FAMOUS WICKED STORIES (202 pages, Rs. 75), also published by Good Books Distributors Publishers [G.B.D.], Kolkata - 16. Other short stories in this collection (which I will read soon; I bought these two collections of short stories only a few days ago) are: "The Blind Spot" by Saki, "The Great French Duel" by Mark Twain, "A Wicked Woman" by Jack London, "A School Story" by M.R. James, "How the Leopard got his Spots" by Rudyard Kipling, "The Pit and the Pendulum" by Edgar Allan Poe, "The Open Window" by Saki (a well-known short story), "A Terribly Strange Bed" by Wilkie Collins, "A Bad Business" by Anton Chekhov, "The Story-teller" by Saki, "The Helpmate" by Anton Chekhov, "Betrothed" by Anton Chekhov. (I have the weird feeling that most of the short stories in these COLLECTIONS of short stories are recently composed short stories, despite the inclusion of well-known short stories like "The Open Window" by Saki to fool The Reader. - G)
